The Board of Regents requires that after certification, CIAs, CCSAs, CGAPs, and CFSAs maintain their knowledge and skills and stay abreast of improvements and current developments in their area of certification through Continuing Professional Education (CPE). This is facilitated through a self-certification process with the completion and reporting of required CPE hours on a biennial basis.

The reporting year is determined by the individual's IIA membership or customer (for non-members) identification number. IIA-certified professionals whose membership or customer identification numbers end with an even number should report in even-numbered years and those whose membership or customer identification numbers end with an odd number should report in odd-numbered years.  For example:

Membership/Customer ID = #33333 (odd number) reports 2003-2004 CPE's in 2005.
Membership/Customer ID = #22222 (even number) reports 2004-2005 CPE's in 2006.

If you are scheduled to report your CPE hours in 2005 (your membership or customer ID number ends with an odd number), the reporting deadline is May 31, 2005. CPE reporting by IIA members is free; nonmembers must submit a US $50 processing fee with their report. IIA-certified professionals who fail to meet their CPE requirements by the reporting deadline will automatically be placed in inactive status and may not use their designation.

New CIAs are awarded 80 CPE hours (40 CPE hours are awarded to new CCSA, CGAP, or CFSA individuals) for passing the exam. Half of these CPE hours (40) are for the year in which the exam is passed and the other 40 hours for the subsequent year. Similarly, CCSAs, CGAPs, and CFSAs receive 20 CPE hours for the year in which they passed the exam and 20 CPE hours for the subsequent year.

As an IIA certified professional, you are responsible for ensuring that the CPE information in your report is accurate. A CPE worksheet is provided to assist you in keeping accurate records of CPE activity. If you choose to use the worksheet, do not submit it to The IIA.  The worksheet is for your records only. You must include your membership or customer identification number when reporting your CPE.

There are two options for reporting CPE:
Electronic Submission: IIA-certified professionals may submit their CPE hours via The IIA's Web site.
Fax or mail Submission:  To report CPE hours via fax or mail, complete the same online form, but print the form when completed and fax or mail it to The IIA.
